And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing. First flew in 1932
There is a WONDERFUL Staggerwing museum in Tullahoma TN. Lots of beautiful planes and many of them are fliers! It is located on the old Northern Field a part of the WW2 Camp Forrest. It was one of the largest training bases during the war and also a huge German POW camp.
There was one on display at the last airshow I attended. It was impressive and the interior was nicer than my first apartment.
ReplyDeletePlane's VH is an Australian registration code.
ReplyDeleteIf I could afford to buy one (and keep it in a decent hangar and feed it) I'd own one.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful and fly really really nice.
The profile emphasizes just how beautiful they are.
DeleteProof of the adage "Looks right; flies right."
The most recent Staggering I saw up close and personal was in 2007. Brand new interior, good paint. She purred. Asking $55k
DeleteI'm sure if ya look hard enough you could.
The first executive aircraft and I think the first with retractable gear.

now find a 1936 Delahaye to drive to the airport
ReplyDeleteAircraft-Women-Cars; just when the right one comes into view; along comes another head turner if not heart breaker.
ReplyDeleteThey look fast just sitting on the ground, one of my favorites..

ReplyDeleteYou're right; made the tour there in December 22. Also did the walking tour of the Jack Daniels distillery.
