Wow. Leave the outside just like it is. Maybe upgrade the running gear. I'd commute in that.

  1. Yeah, totally Hot Rod the inside leave it be outside, give it a Crown Vic front steering assembly, Ford 3rd member rear axle, 6 speed manual tranny, engine to rear exit 304 SST exhaust system, be me, a Chevy circle track spec iron head Vortec crate motor, with Webber cross flow 4 carb manifold, and a custom built DUI HEI type distributer, keep it simple, clean, reliable, lots of drivable low end and midrange power. Re-apolster front seat with nice cushy comfy foam, and some nice tunes. Put all new glass in it. Call it a day. Something you drive till you go to rest in your grave, leave it for your grandkids.

    2. Once, I started a little Case tracklayer with a crank, not realizing it was in gear. Sort of disconcerting to have the machine that you just coughed into life pop and then start to crawl right at you.

  4. Flat head with dual fuel injection disguised as stromberg carbs. 4 speed top load manual tranny. Put some car axles under it and hop up the brakes so it will ride nice and stop on a dime. New glass, saddle blanket front seat upholstery and lower it just a bit. How about we paint 3 of the grille bars red, white and blue just to irritate the BMW owners?

    1. you’ll only irritate the BMW crew if you do a light blue, dark blue, and red — there’s no white in the M logo …

  5. That engine compartment is not very big so a big block would be a very difficult build. A small block 5.0L that has been stroked would be the prime candidate. For a 5 or 6 speed the transmission tunnel will need to be rebuilt but that is not a show stopper. Trick out the inside and suspension as much as the wallet can stand but don't do much to the outside except get the lighting all working on 12 volt.

  6. I'd leave the original engine in it; no computers, no check engine light, and it'll survive an EMP or Coronal Mass Ejection. Upgrade the suspension and brakes.

  7. Put a Ford 300ci straight six in that engine bay. All you are going to do is cruise dawn the boulivard. Plents of torque to pull the period sode machine that you are going to modify into a trailer.
