  5. PBY Catalina. God bless those crewmen. So many rescue jobs. So many lives saved.

  6. Sorry we don't have seaplanes anymore. They filled an important niche.

  7. Well, after about two minutes it won't be loud anymore or ever.

  8. The Japanese still run multi-engine seaplanes. Russians might also.

  9. Try lying under a F-111 trying to fix an antenna while the bastard engine fitters are running the Pratt & Whitneys on full afterburner. Might be the cause of my tinnitus.

  10. I would be fascinated to hear the rationale for working on a running engine, beyond youthful invincibility and sheer stupidity.

    1. Tweaking things and looking for something you really need to find.

    2. I've set the ignition timing on moving boats. You are getting max performance with the fuel you normally use, under working conditions.

I'm unsure if the aircraft moving like that is more accurate than running it while tethered and adjusting the prop pitch for load at the desired RPM's.
Narrow working window, still on water, but not quite fast enough to get it on plane. Ballsy move if that is what is happening. Probably helps to keep the engine from overheating.
