Wasting Fuel - unless you like sound and noise, in which case it is well used.

  1. No, with nitromethane the peak pressure is reached in a VERY rich mixture...It's still burring when the exhaust valve opens, thus the plume of fire

    1. I've been told that what you see burning is not fuel, but the oxygen in
      the air from the extreme heat.

    2. True story. Cutting torch flame is blue, and then bright white when oxygen enriched.

  6. After a night at the drags, usually in the pits, brother and me would go lie in the grass at the end of the runway for some R&R feeling the F-4s take off in full burner.

  7. Maybe it was during the spin up of the tires to get the rubber soft. Don't know, got to go to an event in Northern Cali years ago, most amazing thing was watching the Crew rebuild after every run.
