And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Triple 8's and 851's, looks like a few SP's with endurance fuel tanks, the factory homo bikes came with carbon fiber tanks, number of race componants, worth quite a lot, and those all look pristine. Down the row might be a few full on factory race 888's from the tail section shapes, hard to see, usually the white tails where specials, various cams exhausts brakes and suspension parts, then there's engine bits like special cams, ported heads Ti rods, all made by hand back then. At that point in Ducati history what took Ducati to build in a year Honda did in one day. Nice engines, the built 888's pulled like stink out of the corners, hard to keep the front wheel planted, you could wheelie leaning over, they made nice power to torque ratio. But they where kind of pigs handling wise compared to the 916 and advent of the 750 SuperSport era and on. Problem with racing pre 2018 Duc's, the front head gets in the way of moving weight bias further forward, steepen the steering head angle to 21 degrees helps, (really helps on the SS air cooled 2valve bikes), the front tire under hard braking rubs the valve cover, got to jack the back suspension up raises the bike a little and effectively puts some weight bias forward, and climbing up on the tank much as you can cornering helps too. But the wide power pulses, 170 degrees between pistons, and really nice torque, delivered to the rear wheel makes for great rear wheel turning effects using your throttle. Great fun racing Duc's cause of that characteristic. Guess every kind of bike has its pros and cons. The Buell's where like that too, just splendid grunt power coming out of turns. The early Ducati's where unique, you got visceral feed back on the track, you always know what the bike is doing, a real serious, racers race bike especially when you put them in a weight reduction diet, thats when they start to really shine.
Not necessarily. One of the benefits of riding Ducati sport bikes for a group of us was that it kept our back problems minimized. Part of it was just the effort of riding a good sport bike kept us in better shape, and the forward lean seemed to be better than the sit up and beg/tv watching chair type of body position that most bikes have. Back when I rode, my chiro used to lead bike rides through the mountains/hills around the Silly Valley area.

I would need a crane and a chiropractor every time I got off the bike

DeleteMore like a row of widow makers.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if you ride stupid normally, or you have a brief attack of the stupids, that can happen.
