And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Saw a '65 Mustang Fastback in south NJ set up for a big block, in the early 80's. I was told the only way that was possible was to remove the suspension towers so the engine would actually fit. That's why the '67 and later Mustangs kept getting bigger so they could fit the bigger engines. I first looked at it because I thought it might have been my old 'stang that I had sold 10 years earlier.
The builder fixed that problem by using a straight axle under the front. I tried to buy it, but he refused to sell it to me when he found out where it would be going: CA. (He wouldn't explain why.) I wanted it for the street, as I thought it looked really neat!)
I was working with a guy who had stuffed a 427 side oiler (out of a Shelby Cobra, possibly. His description of the little car it came out of sounded close) into a '67 fastback.
My last Chief had a 69 with a duel overhead 6 cylinder convertible that had the tach on the hood. He got it when he returned from Vietnam and drove it till 2001 when he retired from the ANG. He had 34 years in the service.
1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 H.O.. 335 hp @5,000 rpm & 430 lb.-ft @3,300 rpm. 10.75:1 compression ratio. The only advantage the HO had over the regular 400 is 5 additional hp and different camshaft duration degrees. Mine is just a standard 400 and I love driving it around! Legio XIX
That's a beauty.
ReplyDeleteI always believed the bird has more character than the 'maro ...
ReplyDeleteespecially the 74 formula birds
Back when GM fully supported their subsidiary marques.
ReplyDeleteHave a client/friend that dropped a 427 Cobra into a '64 Mustang Convertible.
ReplyDelete???
DeleteHe removed the 289 ci. & 3 speed manual tranny. Modifed the engine mounts. It now has a 5 speed Hurst w/ the 427. Bat out of he*L.
DeleteWhen you have the $$$$ Trav does, it's just a hobby. The main East-West road in his Small Metro area (100K) is his last name.

ReplyDeleteSweet ride. My mom let me take my date to the Senior prom in her '68 'Bird. Didn't think my '57 VW Bus was appropriate...couldn't tell you why.
