  4. ‘71 Plymouth ‘Cuda. The ‘70 and ‘71 ‘Cudas were the last of the muscle car era and the best looking. One of my best friends had a ‘70 with the 440 SixPak. He actually raced it. On the street it got 7 MPG. Took almost a whole tank of fuel just to get to the strip.

    1. 7mpg isn't that bad, at least it produced some horsepower. I had a 76 Lincoln with a 460 and a 4bbl, it got 8 or 9mpg and made maybe 200hp. Lots of torque though.

  5. Our fire crew busses in the early '70s were late '60s Dodge D-600s with industrial Chrysler 383 c.i.d. engines. They sounded as good as they ran. The chassis had twin 50 gallon tanks, and they needed every drop of them. Awesome engines, and super dependable. In two years, I don't recall any of our four busses having a single problem.
    But then, CDF's preventative maintenance program was pretty off the charts rigorous.
