May 8 and 9th on Mount Shasta

West face showing  "The Triangle" with a recent avalanche.  Casaval Ridge running top to right center, Avalanche Gulch behind it.

Skier at 10k feet in Avalanche Gulch, looking south down the gulch.

  1. Looks like most of the mountain range in Colorado ... including Pikes Peak.

  2. I enlarged the 1st pic to view before I read the text. I count numerous recent avalanches. I am curious about the hummicky patch at bottom center.

It looks like the crevices found on glaciers. I doubt it's that. Instead, I wonder if it's creep or perhaps aeolian created. Probably creep.

    1. However, the features appear perpendicular to the slope. I now see the same topography elsewhere on the mountain. I'm now think it's aeolian.

It looks like a nice day to be there. I think I'd rather avoid skiing in a place with avalanche in it's name.
