And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
No. A "tuned" exhaust system is based on the firing order so that individual "puffs" of exhaust do not hit each other as they go into the collector. Smooth, organized flow is the goal.
First off, that's flat slide fuel injection set over straight shot intakes. Second a natural vee angles for a 12 cylinder is 60 or 120 or 180. At 60 degrees the exhaust tuning is for 4 three cylinder group engines. The intake and exhaust lengths put the powerband in the 6,000 to 10,000 range. That maybe the swan song for the 1.5 litre displacement cap of the early 60's. I think Ritchie Ginther won the last 1.5 formula race for Honda. It was also their first win. He was revered in Japan, a forgotten man here. He started out as Phil Hill's mechanic. I think he has a cameo in Gran Prix.

Flat 12?
ReplyDelete60degree V12, the narrow angle didn't leave a lot of space for carburetors so Honda moved them to the outside. It's an RA300 I think.

Intake and exhaust manifolds swapped from usual positions.
