And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Saw one up close at Greenham Common in UK - about 1980. You weren't allowed inside because, according to the American servicemen attending, at the previous show someone pinched a part as a souvenir and the plane was grounded pending a replacement.
I forget the year; maybe 1967. At Travis AFB were tens of C-5As parked nose to tail.
2017 a C-5 was on display for the airshow at Chino. I spent a bit of time below deck talking with the loadmaster. The long line to tour the cockpit never abated.
All seats facing backwards, and each passenger and their associated luggage drops the overall weight of cargo carried in the cargo bay. I was an Embarkation officer in the Marines and loaded these quite a bit.
I spent five years as a flight engineer on C-5’s in the early-mid-90’s. Was a great adventure. That plane is knelt with both ends opened up. We used to call that configuration “Linda Lovelace” for obvious reasons. Wandering Neurons

ReplyDeleteIf it fits, it ships.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see James Bond fly that teeny jet all the way through that.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite Bond openings.
DeleteThat jet powered Bede5 is (was?) at Estrella Air Museum at Paso Robles, CA. It is real and it is tiny. I believe smaller than the Cri Cri.
DeleteI flew from Torrejon AFB Spain to Dover Del in the top section. Full of airline style seats. Total surprise.
ReplyDeleteI was at Torrejon when the first C5 flew in for an airshow. June 71.

If it was bigger inside, it'd make me think of my ex wife.
