  5. I think that fighter is what the Navy's best single combat pilot was flying. Guy had all his flight's pilots bail on him due to mechanical issues. They all ran for the carrier, and left him to tangle with 7 RUSSIAN flown MiGs. The Russians credited him with 6 MiGs, as only one made it back to base. His bosses didn't credit him with any, IIRC. There was an attempt to get him a medal of some sort for that engagement recently.

  7. It was F9F-5 Panthers fighter bomber (straight wing) in the movie Bridges …. F9F-6 Cougar swept wing is what’s pictured here… more pure fighter…
