Pyramidion of the Black Pyramid of Amenemhat III

The pyramidion of Amenemhat III is the capstone that once crowned the Black Pyramid at DashurEgypt. Crafted around 1850 BC, towards the end of the 12th Dynasty during the Middle Kingdom, it remained mostly intact and is now located in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

A very modern style, it seems to me, from four thousand years ago.

  1. I wonder how they got almost a 10,000 pound up the side of that Dangerously Sloped pile of rocks and situated on the very tip top of it. It's not quite seven feet across on each side. How many people can get a hand on it at the same time? Seems like it would take one helluva scaffold to put a beam above it to hoist from. Maybe that is why they don't have many trees.

    1. Here, attach this rope to it. Run the rope over the top of the pyramid and down the other side. When I say Go, 5,000 slaves pull on the rope.

Rope made of papyrus. Still have a lot of papyrus.
