And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
"Gunslingers" never sit with their back to the door...and walk in with situational awareness of who's already there and potential exit routes. Took MrsPaulM exactly one time to realize she is to give me the seat facing the door.
My wife (30+ years ) still doesn't get it. She'll sit down first and I will stand there and look at her until she moves so I have "that" seat......................
Apparently, your wife knows my wife, except that after 40 years, when I stand there and give her "the look", she looks back and says "I'm sitting here and you're sitting there. Now sit down and look at the menu."
If you're that paranoid, er, security conscious, why would you be in a room with so many windows that extend to the floor? The lake in the background would offer unimpeded ingress and egress for would-be terrorists in a speedboat. Al_in_Ottawa
Ever since reading about Wild Bill Hickok when I was an adolescent. Further reinforced by my military training. Like Paul M's, my wife knows the routine.
When go to a restaurant I care about the menu, the people I will meet, the view out the window, location, service, cleanliness, price, etc. People coming through the door to kill me has never been a worry for me. If this is something you have to worry about then it seems to me like you are doing something wrong.
How can we tell you are a beta? Well you post this pseudo macho tough guy shit like you are some bad ass, then we can be sure you are in fact a Beta male.
A smart man understands that it his job to protect his family, himself and those around him, and plans to act accordingly.
The obverse side of that coin is the internet keyboard warrior, who will under stress most certainly piss his pants before taking one in the face while he cowers in front an enemy he took no precautions against.
Dude, girl here and I carry in Publix. We live in Florida which is relatively safe but we have a LOT of people moving down here and they ain’t all nice. Sit with my back to the door? Yeah, I don’t think so.
Yep. Remember, the kitchen is most likely the safest exit. Gets out out of eight faster too. Back to the door make it so that you can't scope the threats as they come in....
I avoid public places, but if I must be there, that's how I like to have my wheelchair parked, with my pistol in its concealed holster.
(i.e., Utah is a "Constitutional Carry" state.)
Thanks to my training and experience in the United States Army, the old Republic of Viet Nam, the Department of Defense Police, and the Utah State Prison.
I got back from 12 months and 29 days in Vietnam as a US Marine tank commander. I got out of the USMC six months later, in June 1969. For over 30 years, I unknowingly harbored a massive amount of distrust and other fairly acute mental anguish.
Thirty years (almost to the day) ... in July 1999, my world changed when I attended a reunion of US Marine Vietnam Tankers. Before that, if I ever did go to a public place (including restaurants) if I could not have my back to a wall and facing the door, I left and went home.
Well, that is if you go places like that. As Ol’ Remus always said, stay away from crowds. Also, if you don’t cook it, can you safely eat it? If you’re not in someplace like that, where you sit doesn’t matter. When the wife insists on taking “that seat” taking out the bad guy is her responsibility.
I see so many people in public these days with their nose buried in their phone and ear buds plugged in, they are totally oblivious to the world around them. Inattentiveness can be deadly. Keep your wits about you.
It is so sad that so many people do not realize that cell phones are a highly addictive drug. One day, perhaps some more "head pulled out of the azz" folks will realize that cell phones are not your friend. Mine sits at home for 90% of my day in the off position. I take it with me when I go out, but it usually is still turned off.

I always check other exits ect.,that said,at last minute missed Great White playing the Station Nightclub, lost a lot of brothers and sisters that night.
Given the number of knifings and restaurants blowing up across Europe, and the varies Easts, we're relatively safe. That doesn't mean one should be complacent, though. Situational awareness is always good.
Many years ago I arrived at a restaurant to meet my lunch date. She was already seated when I entered and she smiled and waved. As I walked over, she got up and moved to the other side of the table. When I asked why she did that, she laughed. "Because you are just like my father. You always want to see the door and the cash register, and then you spend more time watching them than you do looking at me!" Pretty embarrassing to be busted that bad by someone who I thought was just a pretty face.
Things are not that bad in the USA. You are just looking at a small sample of old, paranoid, keyboard warriors.
Crime in the USA is very low. Crime rates have decreased almost 50% since the 90's. There was a spike around COVID but have since come down.
Don't judge the whole country by a very small, highly biased sample. Most of us live or lives without having to think how we would kill every other person in the room or how we would escape. Most Americans live a normal life, don't carry a gun with them to the grocery store and are not worried about conspiracy theories.
I'm know someone who's favorite restaurant overseas was attacked by terrorists, they commented how its end of street location and broad glass front had been discussed as making it hard to escape from. Several foreign aid workers we killed as I recall.
Perhaps the commentor above who claims that crime in this nation as decreased lives in another world with little or no grasp on reality. The illegal aliens that Biden has allowed to invade this once great nation have turned most major cities into Third World $hitholes where crime is rampant. It is my understanding that a very deadly drug street gang from South America is taking over the streets in many cities.
John is 100% correct. I used to work in a city while living in a rural area. At that time there were certain areas that I wouldn't go to, much like the gendarme's "no go" areas in Paris. Now, however, I don't go into the cities. Crime and murder are rampant anywhere at any time of day.
One of my happy memories is going out for a post-class coffee with about a dozen other Krav Maga students. There was a virtual fight for what we considered the desirable seats.
LOL. Definitely a guy thing.

Bunch of kids mass stabbed, 2 dead at a Taylor Swift party in the UK might disagree with ya. Reports of a guy 'originally' from Wales...named 'Ali'.
