  3. A lot of the heat goes up the chimney in a fireplace, if you're in a really cold place the Siberian or Russian stove/heater is efficient!

    But dinner from a dutch oven using coals from the fireplace is HARD to beat!

  4. There’s a YouTube channel called “Early American,” where a young lady cooks dishes from the late 18th and early 19th centuries with the tools then available (mainly cast iron pots, skillets and Dutch Ovens). The picture above looks like a still from one of her videos.
