The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? I've had icicles on my mustache when I walked a post in Korea. The parkas allow a small fur lined opening for you to see and breathe, so if you're a nose breather, this can happen easily at single digit temps. I don't believe it could happen to a full beard like that, though.
