Not quite a corner, but still comfortable

  1. I made exactly the same dumb mistake as the guy who laid down that nice yellow pine floor. We didn't season the wood long enough and when it finally shrank to its final width the seams all gaped open.

    1. No worry, they'll fill up with dirt in no time.
Then, after a year, just give everything a thick coat of shellac.

  2. Nice to have a rick of wood inside when the storm moves in.
That's quite a hearth and chimney.

    1. That is a haven for bugs. Only have enough wood for 24 hours.

    2. Not if you're burning dry, seasoned, sound firewood instead of a bunch of punky crap.

  3. That's okay. There's a door leading to the shady veranda. Incidentally, right in front of that lovely fireplace and hearth is where the first "gapes" will be noticed.

  4. While living in New Hope, Bucks County, PA, we had a fireplace very similar to this one. From about Thanksgiving until Valentines Day, we had a lovely fire almost every night during dinner. We burned hard wood which burned nicely. Now that I live in Colorado and only have pine to burn, we almost never have a fire in the fireplace.

    1. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. What's going on up there?
