The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I've seen Kodiak bear, at 5' distance (it was a working prop animal that day). The proper way to shoot then from the air would be strafing with an A-10 Warthog. And no, that's not "too much gun". They are simply "too much bear".
If you had to do it from the ground, the Barrett M82A1 in .50BMG is a starting point.
