  1. Nice looking but if really made of a railroad spike a poor grade of steel compared to 420 knife steel and such.

  2. As a teenager I made an Arkansas toothpick with an 18" blade out of a RR spike. I put a deep bead of a high nickel content on the blade edge so it would hold an edge. It was prone to rust until I cleaned it up and put gun blue on it. It went missing while I was away at Basic Training like a few other things did.

    1. Brother, the things I've lost 'misplaced' by others) over the years could kit our a metal and wood shop. Makes me sad to think of, so I try to put out of mind.
I don't dally with cheap, only quality for tools. So yeah, some real nice stuff I've made or bought.

  4. Nicely done, but still wants and needs a hilt.

Otherwise, the first time you use it in earnest, your new nickname is "Lefty".
