Tsar Bell in Moscow. The bell,on display on the grounds of the Moscow Kremlin, is currently the largest bell in the world (6.14m tall, 6.6m diameter, 445,170 lb The bell was broken during metal casting and has never been rung. It was commissioned by Empress Anna Ivanovna.
Isn't our Liberty Bell in a similar fashion???
ReplyDeleteNo, not really. There's a good sized crack in the Liberty Bell that has several bolts in it as a repair, but it's been rung many times. The crack appeared in 1835 or 1847 depending upon which story you like. But it's all there with no huge chunks out of it.
DeleteIn that thing was outside in Philadelphia the meth-heads would have scrapped it years ago.
ReplyDeleteScrap price for bronze $2.26/lb. $1,006,000
ReplyDeleteSimply a bell-shaped bronze cave, not a bell.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you tried to ring it would it make a sound or just a thud?
ReplyDelete----yes--it would-----
ReplyDeleteTypical Russian engineering:
ReplyDeleteBigger than anyone else's.
Built like a tank.
And broken.
