And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
When I enlisted in the Navy in '75 my father advised me to pursue the computer field or the medical field. I managed to get into the DP rate and I ran those old main frames from the time I was 18 until my late 20s. Operations of the IBM 1400 Series to the 360 to the Honeywell 6080 and the DPS 80 series right up until the "micro" systems took over and we were all out of work.
I went back to school and did Civil Engineering for 25 years.
Worked my ass off, supported my family, maintained a Vermont homestead, raised 2 kids, and now I'm happily, retired for 3 years. And I have the scars to prove it.

Tell me again how easy us boomers had it?
Like you said. You had to work for it. It all take time and effort. A lost art?
