And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Hardly Aesop as shown in the picture. A cutter rigged ketch and no evidence of lines run to the cockpit. A classic that needs at least 3 for day sailing.
Years ago the company I worked for rented a a 72 foot former racing boat out of Sausalito. It was a winner in it's day. It had been upgraded to the point where 2 crew could run it(servos on the sails etc) and impressed me greatly. I LOVED sailing in the area I had grown up in, though I grew up in a much smaller boat(25 foot folk boat).
Was impressed by the wake of an incoming container ship west of the golden gate bridge. Because of the incoming tide, he was moving FAST and creating a MASSIVE wake, even for a 72 foot vessel. That was the only time I came close to hurling my lunch.
I can handle two sails but nothing more. I know my limitations. I would love to have a 30' two sail with a I-4 Cummins engine, 2 berth with full kitchen and bath. The wife is not that adventurous.
What a beautiful boat. The problem is that a boat is a hole in the water that you pour money...
ReplyDeleteboat is an acronym for break out another thousand
Delete2 happiest days in a boat owners life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it.
DeleteMake sure to include a few wenches in your crew.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely blue water capable. I could live on that for the rest of years. Sigh…
ReplyDeleteSingle-handing that would be possible, but not as a novice challenge.

DeleteI didn't say it'd be easy, mind, just barely doable by an experienced sailor.
DeleteMost folks trying it without a crew, however, would simply find a way to fall overboard and be lost at sea.
That's the Hurrica V, 100+ yrs old so the internet says. Quite the boat . You better have deep pockets messing with boats like that.
ReplyDeleteYep. https://www.sailworldcruising.com/news/200318/Hurrica-V-Queen-of-the-Classics-is-for-sale says the price was AU$1,850,000 in 2017.

ReplyDeletePearson 31-2 for me. Challenging singlehanding sometimes, but I do it anyway.
