And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Can not reccomend every guy needs one, handy like nothing else. Been using a Milwaukee deep cut for 20 years, got it set up like an upright bandsaw, fabricated a platen table for it, and a foit switch, really works great. McMaster Carr sells Starret's excellent cobalt alloy blades for these portable saws, they cut SST like a dream, there's a couple aluminum/wood blades and those are bullet proof long as you don't cut steels with them, tried them all, and they last way longer than other brands.
I'm doing a backyard project installing 250' of 10ftx4"x 1/8" thick steel edging for a rock mulch border adjacent to a vinyl fence. I considered buying an angle grinder but then my neighbor told me he has a Milwaukee deep cut portable band saw (can accommodate the height of the 4" steel). It's super easy to use and I could never have gotten 3/4 of the way through (so far) the project without it. Darn right it's handy an safer (to me anyway) than an angle grinder.
Having worked as an actual industrial contractor doing actual industrial contractor stuff, the deep cut band saws are a lot more useful and the ONLY way to go. If Bosch doesn't make a deep cut version, buy another brand.
If I were constantly cutting small metal objects it sure would be…
ReplyDeleteIf you want them cut crooked, then yes,
DeleteBingo!

ReplyDeleteYep, like a fire extinguisher, when you need one, you'll know
DeleteHave the DeWalt Atomic for light jobs and a XR for the bigger ones. Very handy and infinitely better than a hack saw.

DeleteVery limited usefulness.
ReplyDeleteAnd WAY too expensive.
You already have an angle grinder, use it.
Try it for cutting conduit, rebar, angle iron, etc. Very useful.
ReplyDeleteUsed to have a Sears metal bandsaw that worked vertical or horizontal. Saved so much work. I wonder where you'd get one now?
ReplyDeleteyes. I used mostly porter-cable models. boss bought a milwaukee that was junk.
ReplyDeleteVery useful for cutting steel pipe. As to the comments above about crooked cuts, this tool is for craftsmen only.
ReplyDeleteElectricians absolutely love the small porta-bands. As to the quality of the cuts, quality blades help. As to the straightness, practice.
ReplyDeleteGood for cutting fence posts level,
