And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Ok, using the buildings you can see, where in LA is this?
It was so bad it was actually very entertaining. (Kind of like how some ugly women are so ugly they are actually beautiful in their own way, some women.)
those buildings are here. You can see them on either side of the Santa Monica Blvd first block east of the 405: https://www.google.com/maps/place/11111+CA-2+%23850,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90025/@34.0471797,-118.4466581,427m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!1m2!2m1!1sMuseums!3m5!1s0x80c2bb7750d3fdd9:0x63f3de1d318c522a!8m2!3d34.0479552!4d-118.4449445!16s%2Fg%2F11q_667msw?entry=ttu
That was actually three different places. 1) The opening was a process shot, shot at a Fox sound stage, with a rear-view projection shot from a car driving through NYFC projected behind Batman's head, and grips rocking the car body occasionally with a 2"x4" to make it move a little bit. 2) The second (parachute deployment) one was indeed Hollywood. The low hills in the background give it away. 3) The third part was NY Street on a back lot. First bet goes to Paramount, but I wouldn't bet against Fox, Warner Bros., or Universal. Someone with mega-time on the correct one would nail it on the first try.
2a) BTW, the spin was another process shot on a sound stage, just like #1), probably the exact same place as #1 too, this time with film of a spinning city background projected behind their heads while they lean appropriately.
Last note: But physics kudos to someone, who had Batman and Robin both lean outboard on 2a), to simulate properly the centrifugal force of a center spin. High production value for a cheeseball show.
I was going to tell you that a bat turn meant something else, a high-G turn in a fighter aircraft. Meant battle-turn or something. Turns out, Batman was first.

Must a been hard to keep a straight face while doing their lines and stunts, like total tongue in cheek. Got to say, Julie Newmar looked totally fucking smokin hot in that cat suit. So good looking photos of her still pass time, she just had that great feminine style and great body.
That, seriously, was the dumbest show that ever graced the screen.
ReplyDeleteI think when they interviewed Adam West for the job they asked him "How badly can you over-act and still keep a straight face?"

DeleteYou left out the part I liked best, the dispatch of the Emergency Batchute Recovery van. I'm not kidding.

The first TV series that I knew as a kid that was stupid but I had to watch the next episode a week later because they always left you hanging.
ReplyDeleteIt was on twice a week - same bat time, same bat channel.
