Classic

  1. 160mph? Pretty high rate of speed for that vintage tires and brakes. Has to a classic hi performance vehicle.
Years back had a 66 Elcamino, came with a 427 somebody got from a wrecked Vette, 4 speed also. Stupid horse power. Anyways took it for a death ride one day, buried the needle, realistically, close to 130 there abouts after letting it wind out for a proper spell, just for shits and giggles wanted to see what the brakes did at speed, single master cylinder non power drum brakes, granted they put heavy duty drums on it, might as well did the Flinstone, I think the car actually sped up when the brakes faded out about 3 seconds. They where so hot and useless had to coast down and let it sit for 15 minutes before they came back. Wasn't too long after did a trade for the 427, for an SS Impala 283 engine and did a disc brake conversion, made for a far better everyday driving set of wheels. It was stolen twice, secind time never saw it again, I would still be driving that car today, really loved its qualities, had a great ride to it, stiff frame, decent spring rate, hi grade shocks really helped a lot.

  3. "In peak form early in the 24 Hours, the C-4RK set the fastest lap of any Cunningham team car. Its closed bodywork proved its worth, as well, registering the highest speed on Mulsanne Straight—150.24mph..."

  4. Love the Stars & Stripes/checkered flag crest. After racing Cadillacs at Le Mans (CW posted a pic last week) Briggs Cunningham decided to build his own cars for racing. He had more money than God so he could afford custom painted instruments and a Vignale body from Italy.

This tells me it was a stock 427. A breathed on big block would have been there just about as quick as you could shift the gears. Plus spin the tires every gear change with street tires.

  6. The only way that might get up to 160 is in freefall if you drove it off a cliff
