Big Tow

  1. Operated one of those at a surface mine i was employed at as an equipment welder/fabricator. The 777 is the hot rod of rock trucks. Great handling, they too out at 38 on a grade, governed speed actually, but 38mph with a hundred ton load in your bed feels like 150mph. They do best bat turns, have a trolly brake for the rear wheels, sticks out on the right just below the steering wheel, great for rear wheel steering, they do awesome donuts too. A little bit harsh ride compared to a 785 or a W10, over a ten or 22 hour shift, but they have adjustable air shocks all around so you are able to tune your suspension how you like it, say if its your truck you drive daily.
I loved running a triple seven when they put me on a loader spread hauling rock and coal. Its a real low drag job. Many coal
mines are situated in remote areas, you sit up pretty high and have a great view of the scenery. One mine worked at our crew boss let everyone deer hunt when the season came in, for getting meat to fill the freezer it was excellent. The deer don't pay no mind to the mining equipment, and being up as high as the cat walk gave you perfect tree blind. Huge herds hang out at the mines. That was one of the best mines i worked at. In WV your able to take as many as eight deer, plus year before they started a landholders only one day season to add to all the others, its doe and buck, any weapon. Literally bought an extra freezer for all the meat we been getting last few years. Paid for itself first year even.

My dad used to run a crew for a natural gas distribution company in WV. He did the same thing - let the guys go out and hunt during deer season. His only rule was that the guys needed to work out a schedule to ensure things got done; he told them “you figure it out amongst yourselves and I will sign off on it.” That’s the way to do business.

    3. There was an electric rebuild shop in Bemidji MN back at the turn of the century, the sign out front had the hours listed and a notice that they were closed the first week of deer season.

  3. You know it! Even started grinding a slew of style sausage, used hard smoked bacon for the fresh sausage, great combo with lean venison meat.
