The latest from Mt. Shasta

UPDATE:  The clouds just now cleared, and there's snow all over Shasta, even down relatively low.  All these pictured places now have new snow on them, falling August 17th - midsummer!

Looking up Avalanche Gulch toward the Heart and Red Banks.

Looking south down Avalanche Gulch from Helen Lake.  You can see some smoke from the fires clogging the lower elevations, but the rain we had yesterday cleared that all out.

Per request from a commenter, here are a couple of maps of the Shasta area involved above.

Hotlam/Bolam Ridge route, from north of Shasta to the summit, between the two glaciers named.

Center blue dot is Avalanche Gulch, right blue dot is Clear Creek.  Helen Lake is at 10,400 feet.

  2. August 17th snow, must be global warming. How are the water levels in the lakes and streams?
