Excellent Choices

  1. The Mini isn't a horrible choice, but for about the same price (or even less) you can have an AR that is metric tons better in every metric, starting with accuracy, and only about 10M add-ons available.

    1. But the Mini doesn't have the black rifle stigma. Even better with wood stock. It may get overlooked when "they" come to confiscate weapons of war".

    2. "Accuracy" again.
I've had 2 Minis for probably 30 years. If I can do my part the guns will both hit an 8" paper plate 10/10 at 100yds. Done that often.
For what I do with them that is plenty good enough.

    4. I agree with Anon 2;51. In the 1980's, the Mini-14 was about 25% of the cost for a .223 / 5.56 NATO and far easier to find. Pie plate accuracy but extremely reliable was also baked in the cake, even with the Norinco cheap blasting ammunition that became available shortly after that.

The tables have turned and now the AR-15 is less expensive and far more options to make it what you want it to do. A 'Barbie' gun, plenty of bling to fix it up. More accuracy potential, though the more Recent Ruger heavy barrelled rifles did increase accuracy too. And if you were / are a M1 Garand fan, the Ruger's sights / charging handle / safety locations are a very good understudy for it.

If they're coming to confiscate guns, it's time to use them.

    6. Didn't Obama confiscate ALL the guns back in 2010?
I remember very clearly Fox News and every right wing politician saying that "they" were coming for the guns and that death panels were unavoidable!
Can "they" come for the guns "they" already took?

On a more serious note. Nobody gives a shit about your guns unless you use them to harm innocent people. Stop with the paranoia.

    7. "No one gives a shit about your guns" ...? Keep smoking that wacky weed dude!

Nearly half of this once great nation are rabid anti-Second Amendment weenies. They truly believe that "unicorns and rainbows" are the answer to any and all discord.

  2. Just a .22 rifle away from having every possible need covered.

  3. This gives me a terrible case of gun envy. Wish I had bought more guns during my working years when money wasn’t an issue.

  4. Unless that electrical outlet is under a porch or other roofed area, somebody has got a code violation on their hands. Maybe that's why the weapons are out.

  5. I have an early 80's stainless Ranch Mini. It had the barrel harmonic problem. An aftermarket barrel that was an inch and a half longer fixed that issue. That made it a tack driver. I also have a 30 year old Bushmaster AR with less than 100 rounds through it. If I am shooting 5.56 I will grab the Mini.

  6. Maybe not exactly would I would choose but I like the thinking.

  7. When I was looking for the last one, it was between a Mini-14and an M-1 Carbine.

Pros and cons- ammunition prices and accuracy.
    Price was comparable.

    The barrel says Saginaw....

  8. I have the Mini. (20 years ago!) hit 3 out of 5 at 100 yards iron sight. 12x12 plate.

  9. You can't go wrong with an 870.
Marine Magnum with after market sights and stocks.
I have a black Magpul Hunter stock on mine.

  10. With the new Massachusetts gun law, that went into effect on Aug 2nd, the mini was the only semi-auto left on the wall at my gun store. And I believe only because it's an older piece.
If that law isn't quickly overturned there won't be many gun stores left in MA. Very little they can sell.

    1. Improved Cylinder choke for slugs? I've got an old Mossburg slugger that came with a similar configuration.
