Engine maintenance on the B-24J Liberator “BOLIVAR” in the Pacific. It survived 81 combat missions and was flown back to the US in 1944 for a War Bonds tour.

    My father was an WWII Army Air Forces airplane mechanic on numerous islands in the Pacific for three years. He said it was so hot and humid that the standard flight line mechanic’s uniform was a ball cap, a pair of khaki pants cut off into shorts, and the ankle high boots. Everybody got good tans.
