  1. Was there ANY reason a 440 was better than a 426 hemi?

    1. More torque with the 440 at lower RPMs. I had the 440 with 4v carb in a Cuda. There were faster and quicker Cuda's.

  2. Yes. The 426 Hemi was a very temperamental engine - good at high rpm but not so much at the low end. The (usual) twin 4-barrels made it hard to tune. Set up properly, on the track the Hemi wins, but only if properly set up. On the street, the 440 works better; the good bottom end makes it easier to drive, and the power is close enough to the Hemi's for the 440 to win.

  3. I'd have to check, but I think the 440-6pack had more hp.

  4. My best friend in High School bought a Plymouth Road Runner. I had gotten married and had a Plymouth Duster, and bought a '74 Bug for my running around in college. It irked my buddy that the horn on my bug sounded more like the Road Runner than his horn.

  5. Any multi carb setup needs to be fiddled with and properly set up. They can be a bitch. I never really got the hang of it but I had friends. I never met a 440 my hemi couldn't whup. Just memories now.
