  1. I remember my folks driving us out to California City in the late 60s or early 70s. There was nothing there not even a real estate shack, just signs. It did develop sort of with a "lake" and "lakeshore hotel." Was supposed to be room for a population of 400k people. Some people live there now, retirees mostly.
