USS Saratoga, circa 1941

  1. Not "Circa 1941" more like early 1930's. Not a monoplane in sight on that flight deck.

  3. USS Saratoga (CV-3) was commissioned on 16 November 1927 with Captain Harry E. Yarnell in command. The ship was originally to be built as a battle cruiser, but was later authorized to be completed as an aircraft carrier. Saratoga was the U.S. Navy's first fast carrier. I was abort the 2nd of three while it was in drydock next the the Battleship New Jersey that was getting ready for Vietnam. A no, I wasn't in the Navy. Army visiting a highschool friend on my way back to Vietnam for a second tour.
