And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? I've seen streets named after fallen American Servicemen in Cherbourg and Brest. It was really nice to be an American sailboat visiting in the summer, the locals welcomed us throughout Normandy.
It is amazing how the people of France still remember what America did for them in WW II. Each time we have been there they approach us and thank us. Young and old,,, without fail outside of Paris.
Captain Haddock is the frequently drunk sailor in the TinTin comics. My French is rusty but the sign states that "Captain Haddock was here in the comic strip The 7 Crystal Balls". La Pallice is the seaport in La Rochelle on the Bay of Biscay. Al_in_Ottawa
