Lasering incoming alien spacecraft

  1. Sodium guide star lasers for the adaptive optics in the telescopes. Used to subtract the atmospheric 'wiggle' for clearer imagery. Initially developed for us to get better pictures of Russian spy satellites.

    2. Yes. I worked with a guy who had done adaptive optics work at Kirtland AFB. In the 1990s a French group put together an international conference to show off how advanced they were in this field. The Americans (US Air Force and contractors) hurried up and got permission to present work that had been under wraps (not classified, but not releasable), in time for the conference. The French proudly presented their amazing advances, and the Americans presented theirs.
