Blast from the Past

  1. First assignment beyond bagging groceries and pushing carts was to sort all of the returned bottles. Made the mistake of doing a good job so I had to start every shift doing it. Those bottles were so nasty, full of gum, come, cigarette butts, piss, and sheet… 🤮

    1. Well you never worked in any of the bottle rooms on my coke route in the late 70's. I did all my own sortin' and yes, it was nasty. To this day I still pick microscopic pieces of glass out of my hands. I got paid 7 cents a case for empties returned to the plant and I usually did about 300 cases a day. Got 20 cents a case for product delivered to the stores and did about 300 cases a day too. Decent coin but it will wear you out hard.

    2. We were a small store, it benefited us to play nice with the vendors. Corona glass is the worst, blows up into sub-atomic particles which cause agonizing pain 20 years after embedding in your hands.

  2. I've got an old Double Cola crate. Too bad it doesn't have the partitions.

    1. It’s a Pepsi product so it goes in their crates. I worked for Pepsi for over a decade and I’ve never personally seen a MD crate.

    3. We lived in Wayne County, KY when I was in middle/high school. Ski is still the best citrus soda I’ve ever had.
