After work this week I swung through Dude's for something to cool my fevered brain. It's a classic old style place that has about a million milk shake flavors, and it was a milk shake I was hankering for.
With no one waiting behind me in line, I perused the choices at leisure.
And in one bottom corner of the menu I saw.... Maple Bacon.
Well, in a world where milk shakes all tend to taste more or less like vanilla, no matter what the advertised flavor, I figured this would be worth a try.
When I pulled up to the window to pay, they told me it would be a bit because they were cooking the bacon for my shake!
Well, ok then. Can't complain about that.
When it came, the shake was suffused with chopped bacon chunks, perfectly sized to make it up the straw without clogging. And the maple flavor -- oh man!
This - hands down - is the best shake I've ever tasted. Hands down, by far.
Dude's is going to be getting a lot more of my money this summer.
My favorite flavor is banana, but they're tough to find. I'll bet Dude's has it.
ReplyDeleteI can't even hazard a guess at how long it's been since I had one.
DQ used to have banana shakes. I spilled one in my dads truck. Peppermint is my #1.
DeleteWe used to have a DQ in my home town but it closed over 30 years ago. I'll bet that was the last time and place I had a banana shake, come to think of it.
DeleteBig, big, big fan of banana shakes but all time favorite would be a chocolate malted.
ReplyDeleteI used to go to Redding regularly, I never was made aware of Dude's! I will make the time next time I'm out in Cali.
ReplyDeleteOn Hartnell, across the street from Casa Rios Grill, a good place for Mexican.
DeleteOne of our local donut shops makes a maple bacon donut. It's a fan favorite.
DeleteCliffs in netcong nj the best
ReplyDeleteTastee Freeze in Knoxville, Tn. makes an awesome pineapple shake. Love bacon
ReplyDeletetoo. Not sure about in a shake, but I'll take your word for it.
Bubbarust
Prediction: And you will be changing waist sizes several times also.
ReplyDeleteI put bacon pieces (costco/kirkland bacon bits) in my waffles, then slather with butter and maple syrup. Better than a pecan waffle, my previous favorite. I've even converted my daughter to the glorious bacon maple waffle...
ReplyDeleteOh damn.... damn.
Delete(Rummages through cupboard looking for waffle iron)
That actually sound delicious! Ever, god forbid I am back in California I may have to stop and peruse that creation. Eat any of the burgers?
ReplyDeleteNow I want a milkshake but it's too late to go out.
ReplyDeleteSounds delish, but I really miss the butter pecan sundaes @ DQ. Damn nut allergists.
ReplyDeleteAround Cincinnati, Oxford and Dayton, it's United Dairy Farmers (UDF!) - Malted Peach milkshakes. It's not on any menu board - I would just ask them to make it that way. Enormous chunks of peach will invariably clog the straw but it helps slow you down avoiding brain freeze and prolonging the experience. Pro tip: get an extra straw to use so you can temporarily set aside a severely impacted straw; together they can be used as chop sticks to fetch the delicious holdouts when the rest of the shake has met its end. I would weigh 3000 pounds if I still lived out there.
ReplyDeleteFor the love of all things holy, get REAL maple syrup / cream / candies / etc. and never ever entertain the idea of "maple flavored."
