And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Sir Winston and Lady Clementine Churchill on the Coronation day of Queen Elizabeth II.
He's in the robes of a knight of the Order of The Garter. Yes, he drank every day, but in this pic he is 79 years old and he lived to 91, not bad for someone who never exercised, smoked cigars and drank daily. Al_in_Ottawa
In this photo he is actually 77 years, 2 months and 7 days old. He died when he was 90 years, 1 month and 24 days old. Just sayin'.... But yeah, living that old and being as unhealthy as he was, is probably more luck than anything else.
he fought the war in europe alone for a spell. his dispatches from the Boer War (when his regimental commander left him in Britain) are classics. he led his troops in typical european fashion- in a slight crouch with his C-96 drawn, exposed to fire.
Winston Churchill & Dwight D Eisenhower saved Western civilization in the mid 20th century. Later Winston convinced Dwight to run for President. At Churchill's funeral the official U.S. delegation sat in the 2nd row. Eisenhower, as an unofficial representative of the U.S., but invited by The Crown, sat in the 1st row.
Sir Winston looks like Sir Alfred Hitchcock dressed up to look like Sir Winston
ReplyDeleteOnly more like an old booze hound….
DeleteWell in that case he looks like WC Fields
DeleteIt looks like they're ready to go trick-or-treating.
ReplyDelete"Gentlemen, we are fighting not only for France, but for Champaign!"
