And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

1931. Columbia dirigible over the top of Empire State Building
Yes, the top of the Empire Dtaye Building is round. The picture was taken from the bottom of the mooring mast made for dirigibles to dock, but it was too dangerous, which should've been obvious from the start. Higher wind speeds at that height and no ground crew to assist.
My Father lived in NYC at that Time, saw the Lufthansa Ships regularly. He saw the Hindenburg flying around the City, dodging Thunderstorms before it Crashed that Evening ,from a Static Discharge as the Mooring Rope was thrown to the Ground. There is a Vid of that as it happened, it was not the one you always see with the Hysterical Voice-over.
The Empire State building was round? There must be a story behind that
ReplyDeleteYes! I noticed that too! Would like to know what building it is

DeleteThat looks like a blimp not a dirigible.
ReplyDeleteWhat’s the diff?
DeleteA blimp is soft, not hard. Just like your.....
DeleteDirigible means “steerable” and includes non-rigid blimps and rigid zeppelins.
DeleteTks for the clarification
DeleteMooring Mast on top of the building.
ReplyDeleteAnd a shaky catwalk over (never attempted) so only one docking was ever done.
DeleteIn Re Blimps: called that because if you flick a finger against the gas bag, the sound it makes is "blimp"
