    1. Exactly what I was thinking. Lots of warfare and strife, repelling invaders and the like. The world is always a dangerous place. Imagine the cost of NOT building them.

  7. You don't really have to imagine it because there's been a team of folks in France doing exactly that for the last 20 years, and they are nearing completion. Search Guedelon on YouTube for a ton of great videos about the project.
