And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
We've lived in areas with Mennonite populations, and while the women and girls cover their hair and wear home-sewn modest dresses, the men and boys always seem to dress like other working farm men in the area, with gimmee caps, store bought button front shirts, and blue jeans.
My guess is that American secular male work attire is still modest and plain, while secular American female clothing is always fashion-conscious and rarely "modest" in the religious sense. When I was growing up, girls and women still did not wear pants very often if at all - pants are male attire, and are not modest.
Had a Mennonite father and sons crew build my garage and learned much about their traditions. The ladies wear colorful mid-calf dresses and a small white bonnet. The men wear long pants and long sleeve button up shirts in plain colors...no plaids or flash. No TV in the home, but they all have cell phones. Since the teens don't mess with video games such they put their money into nice cars and trucks.Pleasant, happy, hardworking people. They all said a group prayer when they poured my concrete floor. a small white bonnet.
The mom's and the girls attire almost suggests Mennonite heritage, the dad's not so much. Family is the key.
