  1. That's how my dad and his siblings got to school in the late 1920's and early 30's in Montana.

My mother, born in 1919 in Missouri, and her five brothers and five sisters, also commuted to a one-room, all-grades school house via horseback (one horse, siblings took turns riding)…unless it was too cold. Her dad didn’t want the horse standing outside in the cold all day, so if the temperature was too low the horse stayed home and the kids walked. Turned out to be good prep for WWII.
