And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
1973 when I was making $140 a week working for the Bell System. And gas was 33 cents a gallon till November when the great gas crisis hit when you had to line up for hours and were happy to trade your first born for 1/2 a tank.
I worked at McD's part time from 76 till 79. The Filet-O-Fish were cod and were actually very good. The Orangeade was a proprietary McD's drink that was better than the brands they serve today and the fries were fried in 100% lard.
Man you just reminded me of something. There was a cute nurse who always came in and wanted a fresh made filet-o-fish because of that heat lamp issue and when she came in the door I'd get her order started so she wouldn't have to wait. When I switched to a different McD's she did too!
3 years earlier in 1970 when I worked there the Big Mac was 49 cents, fish 35, cheeseburger 29 and burger 20. At that time there was no quarter pounder.
I remember in the 60's when all McD's made their fries fresh from potatoes they cleaned, peeled, and sliced in the restaurant.....the peeler was cool....it was like a rotating 20 grit sanding machine that left enough of the peeling on to give the fries that famous McD's flavor that disappeared when they started shipping frozen fries from a central warehouse...
I remember going to McD in 1978 with a friend 3 or 4 times a week. Our order was 2 hamburgers, 2 cheeseburgers, 2 large fries, 2 large cokes. And the bill was something like $4.00 with tax. This was in Pennsylvania.

ReplyDeleteAt this time, I was an overhead crane operator getting a little more than 3 bucks an hour. It all centers around wages.

ReplyDeleteThe Filet-O-Fish could end up sitting under the heat-lamp for hours, and then they'd make you sick.
DeleteIt centers around the value of a dollar. Which is less and less as time passes.
ReplyDeleteReally! The burgers cost the same these days, it's the dollar that's worth less!
DeleteI saw my first McDs in 1966 and a burger was 15 cents...

ReplyDeleteI wonder if the ice cream machine was working in those days.
ReplyDeleteKey West, FL. 1971-1972 Admiral Zumwalt was CNO. The munchies were common. A Mac attack had to be addressed often.
ReplyDelete1966 yep 15 cents. My daily lunch was 3 cheeseburgers, 2 fries and a chocolate shake and I never gained a pound.
