A commenter on my earlier post went to Google maps and answered the question. The Eel River Cafe in Garberville is indeed still open. This picture was likely taken a while ago judging by the low gas prices at that 76 station across the street. Probably at least a buck higher per gallon now.
I'd eat that.
$3.349. Must be a pre-Biden price. According to GasBuddy, regular is more than two dollars higher than that today.

Meal is "simple elegance".
ReplyDeleteOMG We were driving from San Jose to Crater Lake (Oregon). We had been having fun all day and were really tired. We tried to get a room at the Best Western, nope. We went down to Humboldt Redwoods Inn... I wouldn't have let my dog stay in there. There were people playing Hacky sack on the sidewalk. Full of the proverbial hippies. We ended up in the BW somehow. All night I heard people outside... it was a very, let's make a drug deal vibe.
ReplyDeleteI saw a documentary about Humboldt County years later... I was correct about the drug deals lollllll crazy place.

ReplyDeleteI try to stop there for a meal every time I have to go down to, or drive back from, the Bay Area. It's the very last vestige of the good old days... when Garberville was full of sane people. And the food is still GREAT.
ReplyDeleteGarberville is synonymous with trimmigrants
