And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Appears to be Graham Hill, twice F1 champion in the 60s. If it was me, I’d have something protecting the front element of that nice lens. Too much grit and other debris to fly up and ruin it. Hill was a very successful driver and much respected.
It is, or was, common practice to install a UV filter on the “working” lens, to protect it - aside from any UV filtering that might have been needed. The outer metal shell of the lens usually has female threads to allow attachment. With any sort of circular filter you might want to use, the filter’s outer metal rim commonly has male threads on one end and male threads on the other, allowing one to stack filters of various types.
Thanks for the tip. As if I needed a reason to go for a ride. I'm 30 minutes from Evergreen Air And Space. Also recommended, and right across the road from the CIA airstrip.
Bet he had a heckuva headache after he fought the wind trying to keep his head up for hours. Just wearing a helmet or hard hat used to give me headaches.

ReplyDeleteI saw another "original GoPro" in the Western Aeronautical and Automobile Museum in Hood River Oregon.
ReplyDeleteIt was a skydiving helmet with not one, but two WWII gun sight cameras attached. Probably one for the jump and the other for the landing.
Highly recommended museum by the way.
Don in Oregon

DeleteWestern Aeronautical and Automobile Museum also offers classes in driving a Model T but you have to reserve way in advance.

ReplyDeleteThink about the poor guy that had to sit behind him to advance the film and click the shutter.......
ReplyDeleteCORRECTION to AnonymousAugust 13, 2024 at 7:07 AM: filters have a male thread on one side and a female thread on the other side. Sorry about that.
ReplyDeleteNo racer would do this during a race, only during a practice session or testing.
ReplyDeleteThere's a motor drive on the Nikon, and what might be a lever to operate it on the bottom left.
ReplyDeleteWAAM - a pretty wizard jewel box that is these days. Suppose it is superior to its older incarnation but both are enormous fun
