Owls really seem to like being stroked by their human friends

  1. I had that same experience with a Great Horned Owl. He was standing on the fog line of a two lane mountain road late at night and never budged when I drove by him. I went back to see if he was possibly injured, and after a bit of talking I started petting him to see if he'd fly away and out of danger. But he let me pet him for about five minutes while he casually looked around. After he had finally tired of my nonsense he took off up into the trees, almost bowling me over with his prop wash. It was quite an experience.

  2. My Father brought a horned owl home he found injured. He put him in a dog cage for the weekend until we could find a zoo to take him.
It was a mean nasty critter that wanted to kill anything near it.
    Be careful with owls!

  3. Owls are raptors. Would you pet a wild hawk or eagle?

    1. I would and did. And survived and enjoyed the experience.

They know when you're a threat or if you're trying to help them. They respond accordingly.

  4. I think most birds enjoy a head scratch if you can tame them enough. Certainly parrots love that.
