  3. But the Top 40 hit we were playing was the instrumental by Stan Getz and
Charlie Byrd. Yeah, those were the days.

    1. Not Stan Getz and João Gilberto? I have no recollection of Byrd having anything to do with this.

    2. Nope, Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd. Google it. The 45 single brings about 30 bucks on line.

    3. Nice try, but no cigar.
Anything with Byrd was done much later.
The Top 40 hit was all Getz and Gilberto.

You might be thinking of Desafinado, off of Jazz Samba, which won the Grammy for Best Jazz Performance in '63, and was a Getz/Byrd pairing, and a Billboard #4 hit.

  5. Astrud's daughter, Bebel Gilberto, has made quite a career for herself as well.

  7. Mike Agranoff, a folk singer from the eastern United States, wrote "My Favorite Diseases" several decades ago (sung to the tune of "My Favorite Things). In that tune, Agranoff breaks into a few bars of "The Girl With Emphysema" (a parody of The Girl From Ipanema). Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z06ML0ki8MM. Excellent!
