And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Given how decorative this helmet is (and probably heavy) I believe this has made during the Edo period, when except for the occasional peasant revolt, there was very little fighting for the samurai to do.

ReplyDeleteThe above is correct. Edo period parade armor was not used in combat.
ReplyDeleteThey loved european armour, and the weapons developed to defeat it. But in the end, it's the man, not the machine (Chuck Yeager).
