And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I've been struggling to reply. My wife's parents, now deceased, were there that day. As my mother-in-law said, "terrible as it was, at least the war was ended."
Maybe you never lost a friend to war, too early. I have. Multiply that by 100,000. In one morning. Yet it probably saved lives in the long run. Not really a subject for jokes. Choose your leaders wisely. It could be you, your children, your friends.
