And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My first vote. We could vote at 18 in Georgia at the time. Then, I voted for Johnson. I was young and we were all Democrats in Georgia at the time since Republicans burnt down my home town. That was my last vote for a Democrat, though, well, except Zell Miller.

DeleteJohnson was elected in 1964, after finishing Kennedy’s term. He could’ve run for reelection in 1968, but chose not to do so.
