And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Let's begin the day with a big log load on a righteous log truck, destined for the mill.
This truck belonged to Al Scheckla. The photo was taken at the Loyalton, CA mill in '78. The load came off a job above Sierrraville. The truck is a mid-sixties KW.
They moved to Burney in '71. Al passed away in 2004. He was 79. He was survived by his wife, all four of his sons, 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A life well lived.
Before that logs were hauled by the Boca and Loyalton RR which I think became the Clover Valley RR. One of their engines runs at the Niles Canyon Rwy.

When I was a teenager, I lived about 2 miles from Al and Jim Scheckla's truck shop in Blue Lake, Ca. They moved to Burney sometime in the 70's.
