And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I'd bet that spot where the shoes are is as slippery as glass, One slip and it might as well be infinity as you fall a few hundred feet. I was looking at petroglyphs with a friend in a southwestern state near where he lived and he mentioned that a teenage girl had fallen to her death where we stood because a rainstorm had wet the stones. She slipped and fell, sliding right off a cliff.
That’s why it’s called slickrock. I’ve hiked a lot in the four corners area and without good climbing shoes, ropes, and some mental preparation, falls are all too easy.
On Lake Powell there are hundreds of these. They are of different sizes, but all share some characteristics. They are round, and they have steep sides. Good luck clambering out without rope or ladder.
Little Santa Anita Canyon above LA has a similar swimming hole. My friend and I nudged our way down in (everyone else was about 1/4 mile away on the trail and WAY out of earshot). It was quite cold, despite the hot LA temps. We had a serious bitch of a time climbing back out. Indeed, quite slick once wet, quite well polished by time and water, and a quite scary experience that pretty much ruined what should have been a fun swim.
What, no infinity edge?
